I Ran a 5K Today!

Okay, so I realize that a 5K is only 3.1 miles. But for those of you who know me, know that running has always been a mental stumbling block for me. I can run and run forever on a treadmill and not wear out, but as soon as I have to run outside where the terrain is different and I can't pace myself as well, I tend to psych myself out and get tired. It reminds of when I had to run the mile in 9th grade gym class and I felt like I was going to die! Anyway, I have been running for several months now and when a friend told me about this race, I was still skeptical about doing it. But I am so glad that I did. The best part is that I never felt tired at any point during the race. I felt so good. I just went at my own pace and didn't worry about my time. This was just one step toward my goal of getting into shape for my 30th year. Something I have been focusing on. Just feeling good about myself, and trying to be more healthy. Now, all my sisters were blessed with the "athletic gene" and they are training right now for a marathon in June. I am taking baby steps toward maybe being able to do one someday, or maybe a triathalon. We'll see. For now I am happy with my 3.1 miles.

HOORAY!! That is big. I am not being sarcastic! Way to go Sarah. It doesn't matter how far you went it matters that you completed a goal. Good for you. So I figured out on my own through reading that you are actually turning 30 before Lucy. You seem to be taking this pretty good. Are you? I am not excited but I am not down in the gutter either. Maybe when it gets closer...Yikes! I have 8 months. The desire to get in shape is the same though. I am excited for you...good job! AND you look great! I always love to see pictures of each other though I HATE posting ones of myself.

Hey skinny girl! I didn't know you were training for a 5K! Why didn't I know this? Anyway, congrats on achieving your goal. I am sure you did great.

Send any pointers my way since I am aiming to get my behind into shape as soon as my doctor gives me the greenlight. I have 20 lbs to lose, stat.

Congratulations! That is so awesome!!! I completely understand about the mental block that gets in the way of reaching goals. I did my first 5K this year too, and it was the first step towards a lot of change in my life. It's been amazing to slowly break past those hurdles and realize that you can do it! You look FANTASTIC! Please share your healthy tips - because whatever you are doing is working.

Hip hip...hooray! Way to go sis! I didn't even know you were doing one. That's cool. I really want to start doing more races like that around the community cuz it gives you a reason to stay in shape and a goal to work towards...and it feels good! I know what you mean about feeling older and wanting to stay active. I have never enjoyed running so much as i do now that i have a child. It is so enjoyable to go outside and have an hour of pure silence to yourself...me time. Anyways, we are excited to see you in a week!!!

Good job with that!! I'm totally the opppisite.... I can only do a mile on the tredmill... at most but out side I can go forever. Good job on finishing, I find that is the biggest accomplishment and a great start to racing!
