Blast From the Past

So this past week I took the kids to the library to check out some books and movies. We came across Pollyanna which was one of my favorite Disney movies when I was a kid. I decided to check it out and watch it with Abby and Andrew. Let me tell you, it brought back so many memories. It is such a great show and it has a wonderful message. I highly recommend watching it again if you haven't seen it in a long time. Some of the scenes get a little bit long and boring for the kids, and they didn't totally get everything that was going on, but as long as I explained to them what was happening, they were totally enthralled. What I loved was the message that any one person can make a difference in the lives of so many people just by having a positive attitude and outlook on life. My kids loved it because that person was a kid just like them and I think it made them feel like kids can make a difference. They have a fresh perspective and they have the ability to teach and have an impact on us (sometimes grouchy) adults. By the end of the movie, I was in tears. It is a very moving little story. Go and check it out.

Perry and I always joke about how when we were little, I was at home watching Punky Brewster and Mr. Belvedere, and he was watching M.T.V. already. Let's just say, being the youngest, he didn't have much of a childhood growing up with a bunch of teenagers in the house. So all the old Disney movies that I watched as a kid, he never saw because he was probably watching whatever his older siblings were watching. So, so sad. :) Anyway, here are a couple more of my childhood favorites. If you have any favorites, share them in the comments.

The Gnome Mobile. A Claflin family favorite. We could watch it over and over. Remember the scene where all the female gnomes try to catch Jasper so they can be his wife? Classic!

Savannah Smiles. I am not sure why we ever saw this movie, but we always rented it and I think we liked it because we were fascinated by the idea of being abducted. Even though we knew it would be bad and scary, there was still a chance that you may like your abductors and they might be nice to you if you are as cute and lovable as Savannah in Savannah Smiles. Cute show. And last but certainly not least.........

The Watcher in the Woods. Another Disney classic. I get goosebumps just looking at this picture. What were my parents thinking letting us watch this! It was such a freaky show. But it had some great lines in it that my siblings and I still recite and make fun of to this day. "NERAK!"

Galan Family Latest & Greatest

1. We finally received our orders to Fort Gordon, Georgia. This means we can begin the moving process. We are scheduled to report July 10, 2008

2. Abby lost her 2nd tooth! And she already has another slightly loose tooth on top.

3. Sarah got her 1st root canal. It was pretty rough, but she made it through. It probably won't be the last.

4. Perry and Sarah began a new fitness program: P90X . Very intense. If you see us limping around, you'll know why.

5. Rather then letting the military pack us and move us, Perry has convinced Sarah to do a D.I.T.Y. move (a do-it-yourself move). He only sees $$$$ signs! We are crazy!

6. Our whirlwind of a trip to Georgia this past week to find a house was successful. We almost bought a house, then we almost rented a house, and then by some miracle, a brand new house became available on-base. We decided this was the best option for us since we are only going to be there just under two years.

7. Andrew is ready to potty-train. But the problem is, Sarah is not! Hopefully he will still be motivated after this move!

8. We will be going to Utah for my sister Laura's wedding in August. We hope to be able to see all our Utah peeps! More specific dates to come.

9. After nearly 4 years of serving in our ward bishopric, Perry was released. Sarah is excited to finally be able to have help on Sunday mornings and during sacrament meeting! Sarah also was released from the primary presidency.

10. We are getting excited for this new adventure, but it is also very bittersweet to be leaving Ft. Meade. Our home for the past five years. We are trying to make the most of our last couple weeks here and enjoy the little time we have left with all our friends.

Soccer Star

This season Abby was involved in soccer. Although the team she was on was full of drama, she did really well and improved a lot. She was a great player and so tough. She got hit with the ball in the stomach, head, face etc. and kept right on playing. She played in cold weather and sweltering hot weather and never complained once. I wish I had her energy. She definitely has that athletic drive. She worked really hard this season and we are so proud of her. She's our little soccer star! Great job Abby!

Take a look at that determination :)

Great form and follow-through!

Abby gets a break-away!
