I love music. I can express myself better through music. I feel through music. I love learning new song lyrics and trying to imagine what and who they are about and the messages they have within them. But somehow I forgot about that part of me and have gone on my merry way with Yankee Doodle in my head. I really don't have much of a clue what new songs are popular right now and don't recognize the names of many popular bands. It's like I've been living under a rock or something.
Before Perry left he bought me an ipod (probably because he felt guilty for leaving me alone with three kids for three months.) so I could listen to music while I workout. Up until this point I have been running on the treadmill with NO music! And since running is such a mental thing for me, I need the distraction of music to keep me going. So now that I finally got my itunes figured out, (thanks Nicole!) I have uploaded a bunch of the old music I used to listen to waaaay back in the day and I am loving every minute of it. I've been listening to the Dixie Chicks, Celine Dion, Peter Breinholt, Mariah Carey. Hey, no laughing! I know this stuff is ancient. I'll be catching up on what is popular now in a couple more years. :) Now I have the kids listening and singing along to MY music. It feels good to be back in control.
One thing I am in desperate need of is great songs to workout to. I need your suggestions on this, anything with a good beat, inspirational, motivational, funky etc. etc. I have an itunes gift card that came with my ipod that I want to put to good use, so leave me your favorite workout tunes.

Check Yes Juliet. My #1 fav right now.
I'll go get my iPod in a bit and give you a healthy list.
It's silly but Britney Spears is one of my top workout musicians (the older stuff). I also workout really well to Michael Buble for some reason. Others that I like: 80s like Heart, Erasure, Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and anything from Footloose. I also like Roxette, some Natasha Bedingfield, Center Stage soundtrack, and some songs from the Pretty Woman soundtrack (Get outta my dreams, get into my car...and something about higher love).
Sarah, Welcome to the world of ipod. It is great! I like you, kept turning down my husbands offer for an ipod. I guess I thought I was perfectly happy with my cd's and it was money I would rather shop with. Was I ever WRONG! Orange finally gave up and just came home with one for me he got off the trader. I was like "thanks!" Then he started showing me how to use it...and yeah, he got a very nice thank you from me:) I have done A LOT of research on running music and I will send you an email because it is too big. I like you am VERY mental when I run. I HAVE to have music to keep me going. It was funny when Lucy and I would run because there was one big hill on our route and I was always like "sorry, we will continue this conversation when I make it to the top of the hill" and on went my ear phones:) Orange also got me a new ipod nano when he left so It was easier to run with(smaller). We have good supportive guys eh?
I'm super behind with the gadgets too--no ipod, no wii, nothing cool. I do have a generic mp3 player that we got about five years ago when they were all coming on the market, but it looks about fifty years old. So go you!!!
Nice! I like rock music for working out. Rock is my favorite anyway though so that really isn't surprising. All American Rejects is one of my favorite bands. A lot of their stuff is pretty upbeat and I like it for working out...
I am SO sorry I haven't called... I keep saying "I need to call Sarah" and then something comes up. Excuses excuses... I know I am a suck friend. Talk to you soon though! Love you and miss you =)
U2 "Vertigo", Ne-Yo "Closer", Katy Perry "Hot and Cold", Paramore "That's What You Get", Demi Lovato "Get Back", Goo Goo Dolls "Real", Butterfly Boucher "Life is Short" or "Another White Dash", 3 Doors Down "The Champion in Me", Good Charlotte "I Don't Wanna Be in Love", Keith Urban "Somebody Like You", Linkin Park "Bleed it Out", Miley Cyrus (I know, I know) "See You Again", Puddle of Mudd "Psycho", Rihanna "Shut Up and Drive", Santana "Into the Night", Sara Bareilles "Love Song"...
I could go on and on and on...no really, I could. I second All American Rejects -- "My Paper Heart", "The Last Song"...
If you like this stuff I can give you more ideas.
I'll never forget you listening to Peter Brienholt a lot while we were at Ricks. Call me crazy--but I like to workout while listening to previous General Conference addresses. I just download them from lds.org--I think several manuals are available too. I like music too but this way I get lost in a talk during a workout and bonus--I get a bit of spiritual into my day too.
This is why Ainsley loves Weezer! Because Mommy can only take so much Veggie Tales. She also love All American Rejects.
You mean you don't listen to Good Morning Baltimore while on the treadmill? XD
Hi Sarah, I am catching up on everyone's blogs. I'm glad to hear you are coming up in the techno world!! Not me, I don't even know how to watch TV by myself!! Music really touches my soul like nothing else too. Have fun on your runs!! love mom
Oh my gosh Sarah you sound just like me! I slightly remember listening to music of my own. I do remember that we both talked about liking Celine Dion a couple of years ago, I think that was the last time I listened to music too. (I can't believe it's been 2 years since I've seen you-tooo long) Ryan is exactly the same way, I think moms will do anything to keep the peace. I do need you to talk to Ryan, at least Perry bought you a treadmill I'm still trying to talk him into getting one.
I love MIKA when I go running. It is awesome and really fun to listen to. Jason likes Foo Fighters! I am always behind on gadgets too and I am NEVER up to date on "cool" music, so don't feel like you need to apologize for your music tastes - Celine Dion will always be in style!
My recent addition to my ipod (I feel a little silly for it) is Fergie's album, with London Bridge and what not. My gym does a lot of her songs to weight-lifting or step tracks and I really like them. I also listen to a lot of rock and hip hop. I did decide to listen to Primary songs in the car tho after having to explain too many raunchy lyrics to Michael :P
"Move Along" - All American Rejects (it's already been said, but they have some really great stuff!)
"1985" - Bowling for Soup. If you want a good laugh try this one, Anyone a teeager from the '80's will love this song! (it's so funny listing to James sing this song)
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" - Green Day. This one has a really funky beat to it and you get so into it!
"Year 3000" - Busted. This is another one that you will laugh at.
I'll leave you with those for now.
I'm with you though I "finally" got an ipod because Steve said I would look crazy with my walkman... I think he threw it away...
honey, if you need some workout tunes you know where to turn... having kids doesn't have to affect your cultural savvy... in fact those little darlings will be happier & better off listening to current arts then that old bland american, propaganda, brainwash bs most of us were subjected to as kids. I've been workin on the railroad? what the eff is that? rather than slaves, let us cultivate free thinkers... if i were you I'd be blastin blondie's "heart of glass" or pink floyd "the wall" ,or mozart... but thats just me... welcome to the world of I-tunes.. if you need any music let me know and ill send it to you (I have more than 8,000 songs...

I'm right with you on the technology thing. Joe has to drag me along with him, but I have loved my ipod- I'll see if I can publish my "Sweatbox workout" mix for you:)
I could have written this post, I am totally clueless when it comes to any new music or gadgets. Lincoln loves to quiz me when a song comes on because he knows the name and singer of every song. However, no one can sing Barbie like me. I'm glad you've found a little part of your old self again. Whenever I watch American Idol I think Sarah should do this!
I will have to make a little list of good ones for you. right now my ipod is dead...
ipods are great but still such a hassle. when do you have time to upload new songs and all that techi stuff. and i swear mine is always dead.
plus... i HATE the ear buds. do those things actually fit in peoples ears or do I have freakishly small ears???
and don't let tenne c make you feel bad about "i been workin on the railroad" that ones a classic;) jk, that one IS pretty annoying. thanks. now it is IN my head.
Hello Sarah,
how are you doing? just want you to know that you, Perry and the kids are in our prayers everyday. I know that it can be hard to be apart and have all respons. on your shoulders but if anyone can do it without going insane, you can. Of course I do not know what it's like 3 months solid and with my spouse so far away, doing who knows what but just remember, "he's Perry" so all should be more than well. Heck, I half expect to turn on the vice presidential debate tonight to hear them say, "standing in for Sarah Palin tonight will be Perry Galan"
Um...I really like the song 'Untouched' by the veronicas I love the beat. 'In my arms' by Kylie Minogue is also a favorite of mine, I also love anything from Ingrid Michaelson, A Fine Frenzy, Regina Spektor, Imogen heap, Eisley, Aslyn, Lily Allen (a song she sings that has a cute beat but the lyrics aren't so cute, is called 'Alphie' or another of hers that I love is called 'LDN'), Maria Mena. You know what, check out my new playlist on my blog.
Anyway, I hope to be joining the ipod club by Christmas.
holla back girl by gwen stefani is my favorite work out song and you know how much i LOVE to workout :). call me whenever, i wish you're here or i'm there so i can give you a hand with the kiddos. we miss you guys, hugs and kissis to abby, andrew and avery.
You are a natural blogger Sarah! I enjoy reading your posts, and can relate to almost all of them in one way or another......I'm with you on workout music! It sounds like you're going to get more suggestions than you'll know what to do with! My husband refers to my ipod as my little friend. It goes everywhere with me. BTW, your family is beautiful. Can't get over how adorable and grown-up all of your kids are!!!!!
Hey you! I just tagged you. I know. Your FAVORITE thing to do, but you gotta get crackin on these blogs! I miss your happenings!
